IRGC Commander: Iran’s Naval Forces Empire of Seas

Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri said that his country’s naval forces have frustrated the self-proclaimed "maritime superpowers”.

to report «iusnews»; Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri said that his country’s naval forces have frustrated the self-proclaimed "maritime superpowers”.

In a message to Commander of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Shahram Irani on the occasion of the Iranian Navy Day, Rear Admiral Tangsiri stated Iran’s Navy and the IRGC's Navy have turned into “a progressive and deterrent power” in various dimensions in West Asia.

“The Iranian naval forces have undertaken their important task of defending the holy Islamic Republic establishment and the Islamic Revolution at the current critical time, inspiring respect from all self-proclaimed maritime superpowers and frustrating them,” he stressed on Monday.

The senior commander emphasized that Iran’s maritime sovereignty was achieved through unity and rapport.

Tangrisi added that the Iranian naval forces are not afraid of any power other than the divine nature and that they will do their best in the path generating power for the country and leading to its progress.

In mid-May, the Iranian Navy’s 86th flotilla finished its historic world voyaging mission after eight months and harbored at the Southern port of Bandar Abbas after sailing 65,000km. The mission was aimed at expanding Iran’s naval presence in international waters.

For the first time in Iran’s naval history, the 86th flotilla, comprised of Dena and Makran warships, undertook a long voyage around the world and sailed in the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans without relying on aid from shores. Dena is a Mowj-class warship that joined the Iranian Navy in June 2021. The military vessel is equipped with anti-ship cruise missiles, torpedoes and naval cannons. The other vessel of the flotilla is Makran, a forward base ship weighing 121,000 tons.

Tehran has repeatedly assured other countries that its military might poses no threat to them, insisting that its defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.

In recent years, Iran’s Navy has increased its presence in international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and tankers. In line with international efforts against piracy, the Iranian Navy has been conducting patrols in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, safeguarding merchant containers and oil ships owned or leased by Iran or other countries.

The naval forces have in recent years managed to thwart several pirate attacks on both Iranian and foreign oil tankers and trade vessels

The Iranian naval forces succeeded in escorting more than 10,000 commercial ships to ensure their safe passage during the eight years of the Sacred Defense (1980-88). And over the past years, the forces have thwarted hundreds of pirate attacks.

Iran’s Navy has in recent years achieved self-sufficiency in manufacturing surface and sub-surface vessels.

Iran's military officials say the country's naval forces are fully prepared to conduct operations at any point in oceans across the globe.

In late July, Rear Admiral Irani stressed the significance of "naval diplomacy" as well as conducting joint military exercises with the navies of Russia and China.

He stated that his forces were committed to achieving an effective and successful presence in the international arena and raising the Iranian flag.

The Islamic Republic’s military doctrine holds that the country’s armed capability solely serves defensive purposes.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made substantial headway in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the weaponry sphere.

Iranian officials have repeatedly stressed that the country will not hesitate to boost its military capabilities, including its missile and drone power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will never be subject to negotiation.
