to report «iusnews»; Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kana’ani denounced the baseless accusations levelled by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg over Tehran’s role in the regional insecurity and instability, stressing that some states of the military alliance have a history of colonialism, plotting and carrying out destructive meddlesome policies.

“The claims raised by the NATO chief resemble a bitter irony, because NATO and some of its members, with their dark record of colonialism, designing and implementing destructive and interventionist policies, as well as military actions in West Asia and other places, are the root cause of instability and insecurity, not only in the region but the whole world,” Kana’ani said on Tuesday.

Stoltenberg, at a joint press conference with US Secretary of State Antoni Blinken in Washington, DC, accused Iran of destabilizing activities in the region, alleging that Tehran bears the responsibility for backing Yemen’s Armed Forces’ attacks on merchant vessels in the Red Sea.

Iran has repeatedly cautioned that the expansion of NATO is a serious threat to the stability and security of nations, describing the military alliance's expansionist policies as one of the causes of insecurity and instability in different parts of the world.

In a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Tehran in July 2022, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei slammed NATO as a dangerous entity that knows no borders and boundaries and had to be stopped in Ukraine.

Reaffirming Tehran’s policy of strong relations with the neighbors on the basis of good neighborliness and mutual respect, Kana’ani added that Iran’s foreign policy entails endeavors to ensure stability, security and prosperity in the region and rejecting foreign meddling.
