to report «iusnews»; Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Saudi counterpart Faisal Bin Farhan have held a phone conversation to discuss ways to help de-escalate tensions in the region.
The talks between the two top diplomats come in the wake of Sunday's drone strike on a US base in Jordan, in which, three American troops were killed and more than 40 others injured, prompting Washington to issue a threat of retaliation.
Hussein and Farhan underscored the need for both Baghdad and Riyadh to continue their talks and coordinate with each other to help prevent an all-out war in the region.
According to the Iraqi prime minister’s office, the Egyptian ambassador to Baghdad also earlier met with Mohammad Shia al-Sudani to discuss bilateral and regional issues, including tensions over the US base attack.
The US has not directly blamed Iran for the attack but accused the Islamic Republic of supporting the resistance groups that carry out attacks on its bases and facilities in the region and warned that Washington would retaliate in an appropriate time and manner.
Iran has, time and again, rejected US accusations, saying the resistance groups do not act on Tehran’s behalf and, therefore, it is not responsible for the actions of any individual or group in the region.
Iranian officials have, however, warned that any attack on the country’s soil, its interests and nationals would be responded decisively.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi also said on Friday that the Islamic Republic does not intend to start a war but will respond firmly to an oppressor or force that wants to bully the country.
