Iran Says No Need for Direct Talks with US

to report «iusnews»; Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kana’ani categorically dismissed the possibility of holding direct negotiations with the United States over recent regional tensions, saying Tehran and Washington have exchanged messages through intermediaries.

Kana’ani told reporters on Monday that Iran does not seek “tension” with any country, and has “no proxy” in West Asia, hitting back at the United States for pursuing its own agendas in the region.

“Washington has received our message. We have given straightforward responses. The paths to de-escalation of the crisis and reduction of tensions are clear. The center of the conflict is definite. The US is not part of the solution, but part of the crisis,” he added.

Since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza in early October, there have been around 160 attacks on US troops in Iraq and Syria. Most of those have been claimed by regional resistance groups.

Tehran has made no secret of its backing for the resistance movements in West Asia, but stresses that they make their own decisions and they are acting independently and not taking orders from Iran.

In response to a drone attack that killed three US service members and wounded scores more in Jordan last weekend, the US struck 85 targets in Iraq and Syria on Friday, killing dozens of civilians in the war-ravaged countries.

Over the past several weeks, Washington and London have also conducted scores of aerial assaults against various parts of Yemen in response to the country's missile and drone strikes on vessels owned by Israel or heading to ports in the occupied territories in support of Gaza.

Moreover, the United States has been providing Israel with unconditional military and political support in its onslaught against Gaza, arming Tel Aviv with more than 10,000 tons of military hardware. The US has also torpedoed the prospect of cessation of the Israeli aggression by stonewalling ratification of all United Nations Security Council resolutions that have been calling for a permanent ceasefire in the Israeli assault.

Iranian officials say the United States is waging a war on Palestinians in the besieged enclave through Israel, and stress if Washington’s political and military aid to Zionists is cut off, the regime won’t be able to proceed its military campaign against the blockaded territory.

During the presser, Kana’ani stressed Washington’s support for the Israeli atrocities has prepared the way for lingering crises in West Asia, adding the US uses the Zionist regime to secure its interests in the region.

He said Iran’s measures in the past four months prove that Tehran has paved the ground for the establishment of stability and security and prevention of the spread of conflict in the region.
