UN: Palestinians Killed by Israeli Forces Despite Truce in Gaza

While the truce in Gaza has mostly held since November 24, people continue to die by Israeli gunfire in the Palestinian enclave with two reported killed on Wednesday, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported on Thursday.

to report «iusnews»; While the truce in Gaza has mostly held since November 24, people continue to die by Israeli gunfire in the Palestinian enclave with two reported killed on Wednesday, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported on Thursday.

The circumstances around the killings in Northern Gaza remain unclear, though shootings by Israeli forces were also reported on Thursday in Gaza City, and Israeli navy ships fired shells towards Gaza’s Southern coast, though no casualties were reported, according to OCHA, Al-Jazeera reported.

Humanitarian aid and basic supplies reached Gaza for a seventh day on Thursday, but the flow remains “completely inadequate”, it said.

There has been little improvement in access to safe drinking water in Northern Gaza and concerns about waterborne diseases remain, OCHA added.

The UN Human Rights Office also said the eight-year-old and 15-year-old Palestinian boys shot and killed by Israeli forces on Wednesday in Jenin in the occupied West Bank did not pose any “threat to the Israeli forces when shot”.

Hamas and its fellow Gaza Strip-based resistance movement of the Islamic Jihad launched an operation against the occupied territories on October 7 in response to the Israeli regime's decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.

The regime responded to the operation by bringing Gaza under a genocidal war that has so far killed more than 15,000 people.

A truce deal was clinched between the two sides under Qatari and Egyptian mediation earlier this month that mandated a four-day lull in the Israeli military campaign as well as the prisoner exchange.

The last round of the exchange, namely its seventh phase, came on Thursday, when the resistance movement released 8 captives in exchange for 30 Palestinians.
