Envoy: Iran Not Responsible for Resistance Groups’ Anti-US Military Operations

Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Nations Amir Saeed Iravani said that Tehran does not take responsibility for the actions of any individual or group in West Asia following a deadly drone strike on a US base which resulted in death of three American military servicemen.

to report «iusnews»; Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Nations Amir Saeed Iravani said that Tehran does not take responsibility for the actions of any individual or group in West Asia following a deadly drone strike on a US base which resulted in death of three American military servicemen.

There is no group affiliated with Iran’s Armed Forces, whether in Iraq, Syria, or elsewhere that operates directly or indirectly under the control of Tehran or acts on its behalf, Iravani asserted in a letter to the UN Security Council's president on Monday.

"Therefore, Iran is not responsible for the actions of any individual or group within the region," he added.

The letter came two days after three American soldiers were killed and dozens wounded in an air attack on a US base near the Jordan-Syria border. President Joe Biden blamed what he calls "Iranian-backed groups" for the attack.

Since the beginning of the Israeli war on Gaza in early October, there have been around 165 attacks on US personnel and facilities in Iraq and Syria. Most of those have been claimed by regional resistance groups in support of Palestine. Washington has firmly supported the Zionist regime in its military onslaught against the besieged enclave which has so far killed 26,600, mainly children and civilians.

Referring to US presence in the region, Iran's ambassador stressed, "...the actions undertaken by the United States in Syria and Iraq are illegal and violate both international law and the UN Charter.... Consequently, the US notification submitted to the Security Council in the aforementioned letter ... lacks a legal foundation and fails to legitimize such actions."
