Iran Reveals Number of Indigenous Satellites in Space

to report «iusnews»; Head of the Iranian Space Agency (ISA) Hassan Salarieh praised the country’s good progress in space technology despite Western sanctions and threats, and said that Tehran currently has eight domestically-developed satellites in space.

In a telephone conversation with Iran’s state television on Wednesday, Salarieh said his country now has eight operational and telecommunications satellites in space.

He added some of the satellites are reaching the end of their life span.

His remarks came days after Tehran announced it has simultaneously launched three domestically-produced satellites, dubbed “Mahda”, “Keyhan-2” and “Hatef-1”, into space.

Iran has taken giant strides in the field of science of technology in recent years, despite US sanctions and threats, and is among the world's top 10 states capable of building and launching satellites. Iranian officials say Tehran should access all aspects of space technology in various cultural, scientific, economic and defense fields, and no resolution prevents the country from continuing its space program.

Salarieh also stated the Mahda satellite is in “perfect health” and the link is not disrupted, adding it is fulfilling the country’s research objectives.

“Mahda is a telecommunications satellite that has power supply and distribution subsystems. This satellite receives its power from solar energy,” he continued.
