to report «iusnews»; The General Director of Defense for Children International–Palestine Khaled Quzmar said on Monday that more than 12,100 children have been killed in the Gaza Strip since October 7.
“Since October 7, an average of 250 children are killed every day as a result of the continuous bombardment by the Israeli army. This is unprecedented – it has not occurred in any place in the world subject to war,” Quzmar told Al-Jazeera.
According to Quzmar, this number is likely to rise given there are more than 8,000 people still missing under the rubble.
He also called 2023 “a year of genocide” against Palestinian children at the hands of Israel.
From October 7 to the end of 2023, Israeli forces killed 81 children in the occupied West Bank, he said, adding that from January 1 until Sunday, soldiers killed 15 children.
“According to the Israeli Prison Service, the number of children in detention at the end of October 2023 was 204 prisoners, and after the prisoner-captive exchange deal, the number decreased to 137,” he added.
There are no confirmed numbers on child prisoners hailing from the Gaza Strip because Israeli authorities have prevented lawyers from visiting them, Quzmar said.
Israel waged the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023 after the Palestinian resistance groups of Hamas and Islamic Jihad conducted the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm into the occupied territories in response to the occupying regime’s intensified crimes against the Palestinian people.
Since the start of the aggression, Israel has killed nearly 27,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
