to report «iusnews»; Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian cautioned that Washington is masterminding schemes for the post-war stage in the besieged Gaza Strip, saying Palestinians have developed political initiatives for the post-conflict era.
In a meeting with Syrian President Bahsar Al-Assad in Damascus on Sunday, Amir Abdollahian stated that Israel will not be able to continue with its military onslaught against the besieged enclave without backing from the United States.
He emphasized that the war is not a solution and the genocide of the Palestinians must immediately stop.
“If the US is true to its claim that it does not seek to expand the scope of war in the region, it should halt supporting the Zionist regime, and if the US stops supporting the Zionist regime, the regime will not be able to continue the war even for one day,” the top diplomat added.
Praising the resistance in Palestine as “strong and powerful”, Amir Abdollahian stated, “Those who intended to destroy Hamas have now included the resistance movement as a reality in their political strategies and as a negotiating party in the ceasefire talks.”
“Our assessment is that the Palestinian nation and resistance groups will not succumb to the pressures and excessive demands of the Israeli regime or any other parties. The Palestinians have ideas for the post-war Gaza and West Bank, and are able to determine their own future,” he continued.
Israel has been carrying out heavy bombardment across the Gaza Strip since early October, killing more than 28,000 Palestinians, including thousands of children and women, and wounding over 68,000 others, and levelling entire neighbourhoods. Thousands more are missing and feared buried under the rubble. Tel Aviv has also imposed a "complete siege" on Gaza, cutting off food, electricity, fuel and water supplies. The move has plunged the blockaded territory into a humanitarian crisis.
Iran has stressed that Washington and Tel Aviv are in no position to make any decisions for the Palestinian people in the blockaded territory.
President Assad, for his part, said the Zionist regime and the West are currently at an impasse over the war in Gaza and that the Israeli escalation in Palestine, Syria and Lebanon is nothing but a Western-led attempt to get the illegal entity out of the impasse and save the regime.
Pointing to the Israeli regime’s planned invasion of the southern city of Rafah in Gaza, Assad stated, “The Zionist entity is not satisfied with the horrific amount of crimes it has committed in the current campaign against Gaza, and over the past years of bloodshed, and therefore it is preparing to bring to a head its crimes in the city of Rafah, while the relevant international institutions stand by.”
Appreciating Iran’s support for Syria and its stability and security, the president added, “What the Islamic Republic of Iran has done in the past four months in support of Palestine has once again proved to the world that Iran does not just talk but also acts.”
