Nothing has changed; although sixteen years have passed, the spirit of January 9th, 2009 could easily be observed yesterday on January 9th, 2026. Once again, a dictatorial minority, who neither understand the concept of homeland nor feel the pain of the livelihood and economic struggles of the oppressed, raised their treacherous voices—echoes of the orders of their American and Zionist masters. It was the continuation of the same voice that on December 7th, 2009 shouted: “Independence, Freedom, Iranian Republic.” The same anti-republican cries of the political tricksters of 2009: “If fraud happens, Iran will turn into chaos.” The same people who saw Iran only in Tehran, and Tehran only in its northern districts!
This dogmatic group, who have never smelled dialogue or the dignity of student life, are the soldiers of “Lumpenism” in the university. They are the deceived foot soldiers—insulting, ill-mannered, afflicted with the disease of political exhibitionism. Their elders in 2009 had no concern for freedom or republicanism, and these petty political children of today have no concern for the livelihood of the people. If only they resembled their predecessors at least a little—those earlier generations at least had something to say. These ones have nothing to offer but insults, brawls, and showing their middle fingers.
Yesterday, on December 7th, 2009, they tore the picture of Imam in the University of Tehran—those who claimed to follow his line! Yesterday, they tore the Iranian flag in the university—those who claimed to stand for the people and the homeland! Yesterday, they burned the mourning banners of Imam Hussein; today, they desecrated the Iranian flag and the picture of Haj Qassem. Hypocrisy is inherent in their nature. The line is the same line: yesterday it shouted “Death to the principle of Velayat-e Faqih,” today it shouts “Death to the dictator!” Yesterday, under the leadership of Mousavi and Karroubi, they played the role of the university’s foot soldiers; today they have officially become the student foot soldiers of Netanyahu in the middle of the University of Tehran!
The predecessors of this group had “fraud” as the code word for their aristocratic rebellion against republicanism. Today their false pretext is livelihood and inflation. They shout every slogan and word except livelihood, inflation, and rising prices. The only voice you never hear from them is the real voice of the people and the oppressed masses. In their record, you will not find even once that they confronted economic corrupters or stood alongside workers and paid the price! These words may suit anyone but you, the pretentious claimants devoid of religious and national identity. Better to amuse yourselves with your hollow slogans lacking reason!
The main and unique feature of the people of the January 9th march in 2009 was frankness. Without dissimulation or caution, they directly addressed the heart of the sedition inside. The slogans were so explicit against the leaders of sedition—from Hashemi and Khatami to Mousavi and Karroubi—that state television repeatedly cut off the sound of the people’s suppressed sobs of eight months. The time for compromise was over, and the patience of the people had run out, tired of the weakening of the Leader of the Ummah and the domestic hypocrisy serving foreign arrogance. Yesterday too, the youth were outspoken—explicit against internal incompetence and treachery, against the arrogance of figures like Ali Ansari, and firm and resolute against those completing Netanyahu’s puzzle inside the country and the university.
We have not yet become so ungrateful as to allow the blood of the innocent martyrs of the 2009 sedition—from Hossein Gholam Kabiri, Amir Hesam Zolali, and Alireza Sattari to the dear martyrs of the twelve-day war, from Fereydoun Abbasi and Minouchahr to Tehranchi and Faghihi—to be desecrated before our eyes by a group of notorious individuals. Yesterday, the youth of the University of Tehran, like all these martyrs, stood for one thing: the flag whose golden medal on its chest bears the eternal slogan of dear Hezbollah—Allahu Akbar.
