Mossad has upped its espionage activity in the past few years and has been involved in a covert war against Tehran, assassinating Iranian officials including nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. Several plots hatched by the regime were thwarted by Iran’s intelligence and security units.
Iran’s Judiciary announced on Saturday the agent, hanged in Sistan and Balouchestan province, was convicted of connection with foreign spy services.
The spy had been involved in gathering and giving classified information to the Mossad secret service through middle men, the judiciary added.
In recent years, Iranian security agents have captured hundreds of members of the terror groups planning to carry out terror attacks across the country.
In late July, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry announced that the country's security agents have nabbed a terror team sponsored by Mossad that was planning to explode the tomb of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani in Kerman province as well as sabotage activities in six Iranian provinces.
Forty-three bombs with high destructive power were confiscated from the terrorists, including remote-controlled explosives and projectiles that had been meant to be used at mourning processions and ceremonies, the statement read.
Iran’s foes, mainly Israel and the US, have been engaged attempts to spy on and sabotage Iran’s defense and nuclear industries.
Back in July 2020, Iran executed a CIA and Mossad agent, who had been convicted of espionage for US and Israeli spying agencies, including the exposing of Lieut. Gen. Soleimani’s whereabouts to them.
Iran has been the target of terrorist attacks in the past few decades and thousands of its citizens have been martyred by the terrorist groups supported by certain Western states. Iranian officials stress that the country is a victim of terrorism.
