Bagheri: Iran striving to restore stability, peace to region

Bagheri Kani made the remarks while addressing reporters on the sidelines of the International Summit on Gaza -- dubbed "The Oppressed but Resistant" -- in Tehran on Saturday.

to report «iusnews»; Iran's Interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani says Tehran is making great efforts to restore stability and peace to the West Asia region.

Bagheri Kani made the remarks while addressing reporters on the sidelines of the International Summit on Gaza -- dubbed "The Oppressed but Resistant" -- in Tehran on Saturday.

He said Iran has played a serious role in reinforcing resistance of the people of Palestine in the face of the Israeli regime's acts of aggression.

Since the beginning of Israel's war on Gaza some eight months ago, the Islamic Republic's diplomatic efforts have been focused on finding ways to end the regime's crimes and genocide in the Strip, he added.

The interim foreign minister noted that he will probably travel to Lebanon and Syria within the next few days to hold talks with the two countries' authorities as well as officials of the resistance front on countering the Israeli regime.

Bagheri Kani emphasized that in phone talks with foreign ministers of Muslim countries, he has proposed an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

He said consultations are underway to arrange the meeting in a Muslim country's capital like Jeddah, which hosts the OIC main headquarters, in the near future.

Israel launched the war against Gaza in October 2023 in response to Al-Aqsa Storm, a retaliatory operation staged by the Palestinian territory’s resistance movements.

The Israeli military onslaught has killed at least 36,379 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and wounded 82,407 people.

Egypt and Qatar have been mediating negotiations aimed at conclusion of a ceasefire agreement following one in November, during which the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas released 105 of the captives that had seized during Al-Aqsa Storm.

In early May, Hamas agreed to another truce proposal enabling cessation of the Israeli aggression and release of other captives.
